About
ASI Events is a university-funded organization that puts on events to enhance the quality of student life at Cal Poly.
Below is a list of projects I initiated and contributed to from inception to completion.
Role: Musical Entertainment Assistant
As a Musical Entertainment Assistant, I effectively managed the university budget to organize and coordinate events, booking artists for multiple ASI events every week. Whether it was orchestrating two-day programs with 20,000 attendees or arranging intimate performances on campus, I engaged with artists and venues of various scales. Throughout the process, I was involved in all aspects of the concerts we hosted, from initial ideation to post-event cleanup.

Day 1 at Cal Poly Rodeo, 2022 (I'm second to left)

Cal Poly Rodeo: a 20,000-person two-day concert event
Cal Poly Rodeo stands out as one of the largest annual events at Cal Poly, drawing in over 20,000 attendees across two action-packed days. From daytime rodeo spectacles to evening concerts, the event promises excitement at every turn. In meticulous preparation, I coordinated the stage setup, audio equipment, and artist requirements well in advance, collaborating closely with Cal Poly Marketing to ensure both days sold out to capacity. Featured artists for the event included Morgan Evans and Thompson Square.

SLO Music Hour: consistent booking and community engagement
I spearheaded SLO Music Hour, a weekly initiative featuring local student artists in the heart of the university square. Responsible for organizing performances by student-led Cal Poly bands, I collaborated closely with artists to secure bookings for each Tuesday from 11 am to 12 pm. This landmark initiative marked the first time such frequent performances were scheduled on campus, significantly enhancing student and local community engagement, and underscoring my ability to spearhead impactful cultural initiatives.

Virtual Events: Nick DiGiovanni
In the wake of COVID-19, online events have proven effective in providing safe and accessible interactive experiences for students. I contributed in booking an event where celebrity chef Nick DiGiovanni hosted a "Cook with Me" webinar, guiding our students in preparing ramen alongside him.
Battle of the Bands
The Battle of the Bands initiative was an ambitious, collaborative, and interactive concert where the audience had the opportunity to vote for the winner. While traditional prizes in the past included money or university credit, I forged collaborations with local businesses to offer more enticing, and beneficial rewards for artist growth.
Inticing Prizes
Prize 1: Collaborating with Sauce Pot Studios, a local recording studio, we arranged a full day of recording, mixing, and mastering for any three songs chosen by the winning artist. The total value of this prize amounted to $650, a significantly higher value than what an average student could afford independently.
Prize 2: Leveraging the recorded songs from Sauce Pot Studios, KCPR agreed to feature one of the artist's tracks in rotation for a month, broadcasting it on air multiple times per week.
